Former President John Dramani Mahama has made multiple promises regarding boosting Arabic education if voted into office after the 2024 general elections.
In a campaign stop on October 31, 2024 in the Savelugu Constituency, he outlined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) record in boosting Arabic and Islamic Education.
“I presented a car to the CEO of the Islamic Education Unit of the GES. It is the NDC that introduced the Islamic Education Unit and created the English-Arabic schools and that is how come a lot of people decided to send our children to school. NDC alone has built 195 Islamic schools and when we come, we are going to increase the number of Islamic schools…,” he stressed.
Along with building schools, he said teachers will be sent to Arab countries to learn and return to impart into young ones, “we are going to expand the training of Arabic teachers so that when they come, they are going to teach Arabic language, so that they can take the exam in Arabic and be proficient in Arabic…”
He emphasized that the NDC has so far implemented majority of the Muslim Manifesto that was presented to them: “Before we wrote our manifesto, the National Chief Imam came to me with the National Muslim Conference and they presented us with 14-point Muslim manifesto, we put 12 of those points in our manifesto,” he added.
