Muslims in America became a key constituency that was actively wooed by the major candidates in the United States elections. The issue of American foreign policy especially on the Israel war on Gaza was largely the topmost issue.
Unfortunately, both major candidates, the Democratic Party’s Kamala Harris and the Republican Party’s Donald Trump, turned out to be massively pro-Israel even as the Joe Biden government continued to support Israel with arms as they pounded Gaza and widened their war in the Middle East to Lebanon, Syria and Iran.
Trump would go on to get some endorsement of Muslim groups days to the polls while Harris suffered more backlash with claims that she shut down pro-Palestine voice at one of her rallies.
But far away from the US in Nigeria, a musician called Jamilu Majia, composed a song for Trump and posted the video on TikTok two days to the vote (November 5, 2024).
The video was shot in a typical Nigerian village showcasing veiled girls and ladies wearing Donald Trump and JD Vance shirts and caps while waving the American flag.
“In God we Trust, America,” is the first line that one hears. “Vote for Donald Trump in 2024,” and “Sai Donald Trump, America” are the main choruses that are subsequently heard throughout the song.
At the time of filing this report, the video had garnered the following interactions: 4403 likes, 1388 comments, 520 shares and 1016 bookmarks. Portions of the video has also been shared on platforms like X (formerly Twitter and Facebook).
Trump has since won the vote and has been congratulated by Nigerian president Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
