Globally acclaimed academic and Muslim cleric, Sheikh Yasir Qadhi was in Nigeria recently for his first trip to Africa’s most populous country.
He was hosted by the Muslim community in Lekki, a suburb of Lagos where he undertook a series of events; a key engagement being him leading the Jum’ah prayers at Lekki Central Mosque (November 15).
At a lecture he delivered later, he was given a Nigerian name by the teeming audience. The name is Adewale, which means a crown has come home.
He posted a short video of the moment names were being proposed even as he said he would accept any name given him, the crowd settled on Adewale. He captioned his post: “Dr YQ was given a new name during his first trip to Nigeria. He is now Sh Doctor Adewale YQ!”
