President John Dramani Mahama’s cabinet is finally out, a month and two weeks after he was sworn into office. The first cabinet meeting was held at the presidency on Thursday, February 20.
After the session, government spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, addressed the media and listed the 19 out of 23 ministers who were selected to sit in cabinet.
Iqra Today found that of the 19 ministers, there are four Muslims represented. They are as follows:
a. Haruna Iddrisu – Minister of Education
b. Mubarak Mohammed-Muntaka – Minister of Interior
c. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed – Minister of Environment, Science and Technology
d. Abdul Rashid Pelpuo – Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment


Who and who constitutes cabinet?
Cabinet is a constitutional creation that the president forms to help in the running of his government. It is captured under Chapter 8, clauses 76 and 77 of the Constitution and reads in part:
76. The Cabinet
(1) There shall be a Cabinet which shall consist of the President, the Vice-President and not less than ten and not more than nineteen Ministers of State.
(2) The Cabinet shall assist the President in the determination of general policy of the Government.
(3) There shall be a Secretary to the Cabinet who shall be appointed by the President.
77 (1) The Cabinet shall be summoned by the President who shall preside at all its meetings; and in the absence of the President, the Vice-President shall preside.
(2) The Cabinet shall regulate the procedure at its meetings.
