Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on January 10, 2025 visited the family of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament (MP), Naser Toure Mahama, alias Mac Naza; on a condolence visit.
In a video shared by Baina TV, the Veep was sighted at the residence of the late MP where she shared some words of condolence to persons gathered.
“I take this liberty to address the family of our departed Member of Parliament, beginning with the widow, the children, the family. The family is big as we know, as we know the immediate family and the rest of us, we are all family.
“What has happened has affected all of us, we know these are very difficult times and no amount of words are enough. So all what we can do is to pray for those who are still here and the peaceful repose of our brother.
“This is also the time we can’t even ask questions, because when we are given the answers, we wouldn’t even know what to do with them, so all we can do is to accept difficult though it is,” she stressed.
Before her speech, the MP for Ayawaso North, Yussif Jajah, addressed the gathering on the purpose of the visit. Also present were the Municipal Chief Executives of Ayawaso North and Ayawaso East.
The late MP passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, after a short illness. He was a four-term MP representing the constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Under Ghana’s Constitution, a by-election must be held to fill a parliamentary vacancy caused by the death of an MP or a court declaration, which has triggered the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election.
