Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has commented on the May 16 operation by the Ghana Immigration Service to rid the capital of foreigners who are engaged in begging in parts of the capital.
In a Facebook post justifying the operation which saw 100s rounded up by GIS officials, the minister said the activities of these foreigners engaged in begging posed a national security risk.
In a Facebook post on his official handle, Muntaka, who doubles as the National Security Minister said: “The Ghana Immigration Service has launched a special operation in Accra to address the growing concern of organized street begging involving foreign nationals.
“I urge all Ghanaians to remain calm and support this important exercise. Let us cooperate with the security teams as they work to protect our streets and uphold national safety,” he stressed.
