Murtala, Muniru: 2 Muslims lost in helicopter mishap

إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ Two Muslims were involved in the fatal helicopter accident that claimed eight lives on August 6, 2025. The two are Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator. The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at a press briefing at the presidency, confirmed that the helicopter that was carrying the eight deceased persons was heading to Obuasi when it crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. The other casualties were listed as:
  • Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah
  • Samuel Aboagye, a former Member of Parliament and
  • Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of NDC.
  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala,
  • Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu and
  • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
At the briefing attended by Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Chief of Staff also expressed the government’s condolences to the grieving families and ordered that all flags fly at half-mast until further notice.
