Prof Alidu Seidu sworn in as Tamale Central MP

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on Tuesday (October 21) swore into office the newly elected Members of Parliament.

This event took place when the House reconvened for the 3rd meeting of the first session of the Ninth Parliament.

The two were MPs for Akwatia and Tamale Central, Bernard Bediako Baidoo and Professor Alidu Seidu respectively. The death of Akwatia MP, Ernest Kumi and Tamale Central MP, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed triggered two by-elections months back.

Prof Alidu was elected MP without an election after he became the only aspirant to file to contest. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) opted to not participate in the by-election citing the circumstances under which the former MP died.

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), however, snatched the Akwatia seat which was held by the NPP.
