‘I’m not affiliated to any political party’ – Asamoah Gyan quits Bawumia campaign

Former Ghana skipper, Asamoah Gyan, has announced that he is no longer a member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a post on X (on September 11) the former Black Stars legend said the decision was to allow him concentrate on his humanitarian work and to support young Ghanaians.

His last known political appointment was serving as head of the sports committee of the 2024 NPP manifesto.

The statement was posted on the letterhead of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation, the post was captioned as follows: “HAVEN’T BEEN FAIR TO THE YOUTH AND THE PEOPLE OF GHANA. HENCE FORTH I AM NOT AFFILIATED TO ANY POLITICAL PARTY, I WILL CONTINUE WITH MY HUMANITARIAN WORK AND HELP THE YOUTH OF GHANA IN MY OWN SMALL WAY. NOTHING POLITICAL, I WISH ALL THE POLITICAL PARTIES A PEACEFUL ELECTION ON THE 7TH DECEMBER, GOD BLESS OUR HOMELAND GHANA, THANK YOU.”
