Former president John Dramani Mahama has posed five economy-related questions to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the campaigns for the 2024 presidential election heats up.
According to Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bawumia should answer the questions truthfully.
He referenced how Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer had posed some 170 questions in 2016 to Mahama’s then Vice President, Kwesi Amissah Arthur.
The five questions were posed while Mahama was campaigning in the Greater Accra Region. The questions are as follows:
- Why has the cedi deteriorated in value from GHC4 to $1 in 2016 to almost GHC17 to $1 today?
- Why has Ghana’s public debt risen from GHC120 bn in 2016 to GHC763 bn in 2024 with you as EMT chair?
- Why did inflation rise to its highest in the 4th Republic of 54% under your watch as EMT chair?
- Why did you borrow more than GHC42 bn from the Bank of Ghana and caused the Central Bank to post the heaviest loss of GHC60 bn?
- Why have you run away from giving lectures on the economy. Why has the work economy disappeared from your lexicon?
