Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has dispelled what he describes as propaganda that he would allow Fulanis to destroy farmlands if he becomes president.
Speaking on his campaign trail in the Ashanti Region on November 13, 2024, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer said all claims to that effect were lies and that he would not allow herders destroy farms.
“I have heard some propaganda that when I become president, I will allow Fulani people to destroy your farms. It is all lies, it won’t happen. Leave that propaganda aside… let’s unite and vote number one,” he told a teeming crowd at the Ejura Sekyeredumase Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
Bawumia introduced the NPP parliamentary candidate, Gifty Ndoma to the party faithful tasking them to vote her as their MP to take over from the current MP who is from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bawah Muhammad Braimah.
Fulani as a topic has been topical in this year’s campaign with some opposition members allegedly stating that a Fulani cannot become First Lady of Ghana, in reference to Samira Bawumia who is a Fulani. She has hit back at the critics saying it is unfortunate that they are not speaking to matters of competence of legality.
Bawumia’s main opponent, John Dramani Mahama is also on record to have given assurances to the Fulanis that they would be given the necessary protection as they undertake their activities in Ghana.
