Some 50,000 pills of Tramadol 225mg from Ghana has been intercepted by Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
According to local media reports, the bust was recorded during an anti-drug trafficking operation on Saturday, November 16, along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway at Ijanikin.
Nigeria’s Daily Post reported that the pills were hidden in the body compartments of a Toyota Hummer bus, which allegedly belonged to GUO Transport Company. The vehicle was driven by a suspected trans-border trafficker.
Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, stated that the operation was intelligence-led, focusing on the increasing movement of controlled substances across borders.
This seizure underscores the ongoing challenges of drug trafficking between Ghana and Nigeria, with Tramadol being a frequent target due to its high demand and potential for abuse.
NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, praised the officers involved for their vigilance and effectiveness in intercepting the shipment. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to enhancing its operations along border routes to prevent the influx of illicit substances into Nigeria.
