FACT-CHECK: Is Yakubu Mohammed the youngest MP in the 9th Parliament?

GhanaWeb, the largest news website in the country in a report on March 24, 2025, claimed that Hon. Yakubu Mohammed, the Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South East is the youngest lawmaker in the 9th Parliament (archived here).

A story on their website had the headline “Ghana’s youngest MP calls for speed bumps in accident-prone areas.”

It is worth noting that the youngest MP label appeared only in the headline and no where else in the story.

This report will verify whether the Hon. Mohammed is indeed the youngest MP in the current parliament.

Fact-check

As a first step, we visited his page on the Parliament’s website, where we found that his date of birth was given as Tuesday, November 7, 1989.

We run a check on another young MP in the person of Edem Agbana of Ketu North in the Volta Region. His date of birth was Tuesday, January 29, 1991.

From the above Agbana is two years younger than Yakubu Mohammed.

Verdict:

The claim that Mohammed is the youngest MP in Parliament is therefore rated False.
