Member of Parliament for Tamale South and Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, was present to flag off the official start of the 2025 Hajj season on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
Haruna was joined by his colleague Ministers of Interior and Science and Technology at the Yakubu Tali International Airport in Tamale, from where the first batch of pilgrims were airlifted.
In a post on his Facebook page (May 11, 2025), Haruna wrote: “On the previous day, I had the distinct honour of joining the Honourable Muntaka Mubarak, the Interior Minister and representative of the President of the Republic, alongside key figures such as Hon. Collins Dawuda, Chairman of the Hajj Board; Hon. Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Science and Technology; Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Director-General of Ghana Airport Company Limited; and Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
“We were also privileged to welcome esteemed Imams and the Chief of Savelugu Nyab Yoo-Naa as we bid farewell to the first group of pilgrims being airlifted to Mecca. This occasion marked a significant moment in our efforts to support the pilgrimage and strengthen our community ties.”
