Asawase shooting: Know the 5 security measures from REGSEC

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has imposed a number of measures aimed at curbing deadly shootings in Asawase and other parts of the region.

A July 25, 2025 press release signed by the Regional Minister and shared by the Interior Minister and MP for Asawase on Facebook outlined five key measures including:

1. No motorbikes shall be permitted on the roads after 7:00pm until further notice.
2. The use of unlicensed motorbikes or motorbikes without lights is strictly prohibited.
3. The ongoing inter-tribal football competition is to be suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
4. No motorbike rider is permitted to wear a smock until further notice, as it has become an avenue for suspects to conceal weapons.
5. Additionally, there will be increased security presence in hotspot areas, involving both the Police and Military, to ensure peace and protect lives and property.
The measures were imposed in the light of the deadly shooting of Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azenbge, Chief of Kusaase on July 22. Barely 24 hours after these measures were announced, another deadly shooting was recorded in Asawase.

“The REGSEC assures the general public of the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and fostering a peaceful

society. All necessary measures are being implemented to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice,” the statement added in part.
