Fatawu Issahaku’s season over after ACL injury on Black Stars duty

Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has successfully undergone surgery to address an injury sustained during Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier against Angola.

Per reports, the Leicester City winger suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the match in Luanda, forcing coach Otto Addo to substitute him in the first half. Issahaku was subsequently ruled out of the Black Stars final Group F game against Niger.

He travelled to his base in England where he plays for Premier League side, Leicester City for further assessment.

The FA confirmed in a statement that Jordan, Fatawu and two others had been ruled out of the Niger game: “Issahaku was substituted in the first half due to his injury,” a statement from the Ghana FA said after the Angola game.

The Leicester City forward on November 20, 2024 announced updates on his situation via an Instagram post, confirming that his surgery had been a success, expressing his gratitude for the support.

“All glory be to Almighty Allah. My surgery was successful, and I just want to tell you that I am okay. I want to thank everyone for your best wishes,” he wrote.

Some media outlets have reported that his season is effectively over as he is expected to recover between 6 – 9 months. He has been a key player for the foxes this season and the development will be a big blow to his team in their first season after returning to the topflight.
